We all, at some point, laugh at older games. The detail in an entire game years ago would not substitute the detail in a shoelace these days. Even so, developing games all those years ago might have been tougher than what game development is in modern times. Software like Unity and Unreal Engine 4 makes this a much easier task as there are tools and scripts to overcome most problems, which is generally shared among developers. Back then they had nothing and engineers had to figure out how to solve these problem.
