Ah yes, once again we have received news that Half-Life 3 is on the horizon. It’s been over a decade since Half-Life 2 hit the shelves and despite the fact that most of us have given up hope that the third iteration of the series will ever see the light of day, every time a new rumour arises, we can’t help but hope that this time will be different. It’s become the butt of many jokes around the ‘net, mainly involving Gabe Newell’s apparent fear of the number 3, and there have been countless articles written about how we should all just let that hope die; yet we can’t seem to stay away.
For our first Half-Life 3 rumours of 2016, a Danish retailer has recently added this much anticipated sequel as available to preorder through their site with a release date being listed as 2016. Other than the year of release and the developer (Valve, obviously), however, no other details have been given.
The site in question is Webhallen, a fairly large games/technology retailer in Denmark. Their Facebook page has managed to garner 81 000 Likes, so this isn’t a fake website that’s been established purely for the purpose of delivering false hope. It should also be noted that it’s not completely unheard of for a retailer to list a product on their site before the developers and publishers have had a chance to formally announce it. With that said though, the cynic in me leads me to believe that this is just another case of disappointment in the making. Of course, I could be wrong and Webhallen may have been privy to possibly the biggest gaming news since the turn of the century, in which case I’d gladly eat my words.
