The Tomb Raider reboot has been so successful that a movie was inevitable. Up until now, Daisy Ridley, famous for her role as Rey in Star Wars, was in talks of being the new Lara Croft. However, it turns out that Alicia Vikander (The Man from U.N.C.L.E, Ex Machina and The Danish Girl) will take the lead as the most iconic female video game character in history.
I’m really excited about this casting; Vikander has proven to be a very versatile actor and even won an Academy Award for her role in The Danish Girl. It’ll be interesting to see her take on the well-established and respected character. The movie will reportedly serve as a prequel, so it makes sense to cast a younger looking Lara. Even though she’ll be playing a raider-in-the-making, she does have some pretty big shoes to fill as I think Angelina Jolie did pull of Lara exceptionally well. While the two movies weren’t that great, I really do think Angelina was the perfect match for Lara.
Let’s hope this new venture will be a massive success and a good move for Alicia Vikander.
