Dawn of War 3 Demo brings Giant Mechs and Bases
Earlier this year, Dawn of War 3 was announced to the world and fans rejoiced. The popular Strategy franchise based in the world of Warhammer 40k has always held a softspot for strategy and Warhammer fans. Considering the shift Dawn of War had to Dawn of War 2, players worried about where the third would go. Developer Relic Entertainment decided to put fears to rest and show the long awaited sequel with a stunning 12-minute extended gameplay demo.
Warhammer, the popular and long running table top game has become a big name in the gaming world. The property has been spread out across platforms and genres from First Person Shooters with Fire Warrior (yes, someone actually remembers it) to the grand strategy of Warhammer: Total War. Yet one of the biggest games with the name that brought it to the forefront of the minds of gamers was the PC Strategy game, Warhammer 40k Dawn of War. Released in 2004, it was not too far removed from the traditions of the Strategy genre but it was a great game. Fans rejoiced once it was announced earlier this year that Dawn of War 3 was in development after a long hiatus. This also came with the news that it would go back to a more traditional model.
Base building makes a return which is a very nice surprise after the second game, Dawn of War 2, removed it entirely. The focus was instead on Hero Action gameplay where resource management was secondary. Dawn of War 3 attempts to combine the two styles by still having a hero focused gameplay system while tying it in traditional elements. It would be safe to associate with the a Warcraft 3 style but with more choice in how story missions are tackled.
Dawn of War 3 is set for release in 2017 so there is still some time. Hopefully the whole gang of races are there from the start because only three races have been confirmed so far. The great space zombies of the Necrons must rise again!
