When the PlayStation 4 launched three years ago, few would have guessed that it would become such a huge hit in such a short space of time. Sony Interactive Entertainment announced that more than 50 million PS4s sold to consumers worldwide since 2013. This includes sales of the recently released PS4 Pro, but the total for the new beefier console was not revealed.
That is a staggering number of consoles, especially if you consider that official sales of the PS3 and Xbox 360 both hover around 84 million, and those machines were launched over a decade ago.
Sony also revealed that PS4 software sales of both digital and physical media, is sitting at more than 369.6 million copies as of 4 December. We don’t know what the split is, but it would’ve been an interesting figure.
