SA Gamer Awards 2016: Best Soundtrack
2016 was an interesting year, and with it came a whole truckload of excellent, and some, not so excellent games. SA Gamer took a bit of a break over the festive season, and we return in 2017 with a fresh outlook, a few extra pounds around the waist and of course, the SA Gamer Awards 2016! We’ll be posting our picks over the next few days, so be sure to check in regularly to tell us how much you agree with us, or how we got it completely wrong!
Music in video games is often overlooked as just some background noise to keep you entertained while you’re shooting some baddies. But music is much more than that, as it’s the soul of the game, the part of the game that provides it with personality.
One thing that DOOM did very well with its soundtrack was the way it was incorporated into the gameplay. The moment the Metal riffs start building you know that sh*t’s about to go down. The music sounds fantastic and it fits so well with the tone of the game. It’s so incredibly incorporated into the gameplay that it truly feels like its the Doom Marine’s personal ballet of carnage!
Runner-Up: Final Fantasy VX
Honourable Mentions: The Last Guardian, Uncharted 4, Mafia 3
