SA Gamer Awards 2016: Best Story

Best Story

When it comes to gaming, I want to find the best story to keep me not just entertained, but thinking. It needs to be engaging and take me to a magical place. I am not the only one that values story in a game and man, was it tough to choose which game came first in this category. There was shouting aplenty before the votes were cast. I had my sword at the ready to defend my vote and it was a heated thing. The best story of 2016 goes to:

Final Fantasy XV

Final-Fantasy-XV

Final Fantasy XV is the game that 2016 needed. It made me cry, way more than once and its unique take on the road trip, of four friends sticking together through thick and thin had me captivated. Tiny bits of story lurked behind every corner, adding to the mesh that bonded Noctis, Prompto, Ignis and Gladiolus together. The road trip offered a light side to try offset the harsh tragedy that is at the heart of this game. If I could reset my brain I would pick this game up and replay it once more, just to feel the same way I did as when I saw that ‘Fin’ screen finally arrive after the credits.

Now to watch everyone fight over who we put in the runner-up position. Believe me, it was a fairly close affair.

Runner-up: Uncharted 4

Honourable mention: Witcher 3: Blood and Wine

Sometimes called the Dream Breaker, Valshen is often spotted playing anything with the letters RPG somewhere in the title or genre. Or apologising for things that his beard did.
