SA Gamer Awards 2016: Best Handheld Game
Portable or handheld gaming has been around since before I was a Wii-Toddler. It has evolved into many different shapes and sizes over the years in and out off the gaming world, and with the Nintendo Switch on its way it is evolving even further. There’s not a soul alive on this planet that can’t say that they’ve either owned a portable video gaming console or know someone that does. So without further delay I have great pleasure in announcing that SA Gamer’s award for Best Handheld Game of 2016 goes to…… yes it is unmistakable……the winner is…… Candy Crush!
Okay I do apologize for that. The Best Handheld Game of 2016 Award goes to not just one but two handheld titles:
Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon
The seventh generation of Pokémon titles brought not only new pocket monsters to the table but also tons of new features. Keeping the game mechanics familiar to returning fans and yet adding that spice at the same time for new players. There were a few flaws in the game for me personally but none that ever spoiled the overall experience. With 2016 being the 20th anniversary for the Pokémon franchise, The Pokémon Company knocked this one out of the park for fans.
Runner-Up: Fire Emblem Fates
Honourable Mentions: Pokémon GO, Kirby: Planet Robobot, Super Mario Run
