Many people have started to report that they have been gifted Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty when opening Battle.net. Apparently the game is being sent by Blizzard directly and it is only appearing free for certain users. Obviously if you own the game already you won’t see the message when starting up Battle.net, but if Blizzard have started to roll the game out to people as a gift, does that mean Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty has gone free to play? Previously you could download and play Starcraft 2 for free but it was only a small section of the multiplayer offering in the form of the starter edition.
I opened up Battle.net this morning but it seems there are server issues because the shop and news feed wouldn’t load. If you have Battle.net you should open it up and see if you are one of the lucky few to get a free copy of one of the best RTS titles of all time. Blizzard have not commented on the free copies being sent out just yet, but expect some news soon. Let us know if you find a free copy waiting for you when you start up Battle.net.
