Sega dishing out weekly Yakuza 0 DLC for free
Yakuza 0 is out now in the west. As a long-time fan that sentence is still thrilling to say. While just the game being in my hands is great enough, Sega is sweetening the deal. Every week, Sega will be pushing out free DLC until Valentine’s Day.
Sega will be adding these through weekly patches. Once players have downloaded, they will have to go find Bob the Clown who will provide Kazuma or Majima the goodies. Bob, who has been around since the earliest entries, will be in front of the shrine in Kamurocho and Sotenbori. Players can expect a nice mix of items, weapons and some swanky new outfits.
This is icing on the already decadent cake. Three years ago, the fate of the series in the west seemed to be only doom. Many wrote off the notion that there was any hope of getting any of the new entries in the series outside of Japan. With Yakuza 5 announced at the first ever PSX in 2014, it gave every fan a massive shine of hope and with 0 now out we could not be happier.
If you have never played a Yakuza game, now is the best chance to hop on in. Yakuza 0 is a prequel, meaning you won’t have to be bogged down by backstory. While there are some amazing call backs for fans, you can hop in right now and enjoy the zaniness of 1980’s Japan.
For those unaware, Yakuza as a game is a fascinating beast. A hybrid of numerous genres, it can best be described as a JRPG with a 3D action beat-em-up battle system. Alongside all this are numerous mini-games that could be entire entities on their own. With Kiwami (a remake of the first game) slated for this year, and Yakuza 6 coming hopefully soon, it has never been a better time to bounce on in.
