Producer says that Mass Effect Andromeda is NOT an open-world game

It’s not often that a developer is stressing what their game is not, but that is exactly what Bioware is doing with the highly anticipated Mass Effect Andromeda.

In an exclusive interview with Official Xbox Magazine, Producer, Michael Gamble had the following to say regarding the type of game ME Andromeda is:

I definitely wouldn’t call Andromeda an open-world game. We like to use the term ‘exploration-based game’. You still have the concept of tight story deliverance and all the great things you come to expect with Mass Effect. The layer on top of that is a layer of exploration. Sometimes that happens in open spaces, but not always. You can cruise around some of these planets in the Nomad, but it’s not the traditional sandbox-type game.

It would seem that Bioware wants to make sure we know what to expect, and having it as a semi open-world, where you explore different planets makes a ton of sense. Let’s just hope the environments are not as bland and the planets of Mass Effect 1.
