Mass Effect Andromeda will feature “Softcore Space Porn” and “Nudity”

Mass Effect Andromeda has had itself a tepid response of late. The same fervour that hit the previous entries are not really there anymore. Although Bioware seems to be trying a new tactic to get you interested.

Aaryn Flynn, a General Manager at Bioware answered a question via Twitter which raised some eyebrows. Some players noticed the harsh change from the ESRB’s “T” rating to the sultry “M”. Flynn explained on Twitter this was due to the game now featuring “Nudity” instead of its PG-13 counterpart of “Partial Nudity”.

When some users starting digging him a little more, he conceded that the game was “totally softcore space porn”. While many thought he was joking around, he assured all that he was being quite serious. The notion of Mass Effect going full Saturday Night eTV  adult hour is funny, yet it does pique the interest of just how far Bioware are willing to go.

Bioware’s games are no strangers to a little sexy time cut scene. Despite these scenes often being little more than the bashing of two mannequins together, many players still got a kick out of the Shepard telling some dirty tales. It seems Bioware is going to up the ante in Andromeda though. Some may remember way back when, the outcry against the original Mass Effect due to the “alien” sex scenes. That video games were going “too deep” into adult territory.

While sex scenes are more accepted these days, the titillation never reaches far enough to be deemed pornographic. Quick cuts, dynamic angles, it’s all done to never go overboard. Just looking at the Witcher‘s scenes of copulation, it is easy to see more acceptance of venturing into the realm of sex in video games. Bioware often likes to hype up their notion of romances in their games and this just seems like another part of that. I doubt anyone would walk away sweating from these “softcore space porn” scenes, but I can’t help but admit that I am quite curious.

Mass Effect Andromeda is set to release on March 24th. It is clear it is not getting the same hype and adoration the previous entries got before launch but it looks like it is shaping up to be another great title from Bioware. Let’s only hope they took the criticism to heart from their last games. I never want another Hinterlands.
