Duelyst just keeps giving, with its third expansion just launching, called Ancient Bonds. It is all about the tribes and unlike that TV show where the tribe speaks, this time the tribe kills, maims or makes you hit that concede button.
A new keyword, Bond, triggers when minions of the same tribe are placed on the board. This means deck-builders will be able to try build decks around this keyword, or perhaps just add a little more punch to a deck that is already heavy on tribal monsters.
While creature tribes have already existed, like golems and arcanysts, the cards that benefitted from playing a host of them were few and far between. Now you can go for a full golem deck and hopefully wreak havoc. Will this see play into the higher tiers of competitive play? I don’t know, but a Vetruvian dropping Dreamshaper, a 2/2 golem for 2 mana with Bond: Draw two cards is something you are going to want to kill as soon as possible, meaning you force your opponent to use removal or a hasty play to get rid of it. Otherwise at 4 mana, Windstriker arrives – a flying 1/4 golem with Opening Gambit: Equip a Staff of Y’Kir to your General (that is +2 attack for your general). If the Dreamshaper was in play, you have two cards extra in hand too. That is a pretty solid position to be in.
The expansion has 39 cards, just like Rise of the Bloodborn and each Ancient Orb you buy will have three copies of three different cards, so nine cards in total. You cannot get doubles, so you need 13 orbs to get the full expansion. It is a long grind to buy all 13 orbs with gold, or you can pay $20 for the whole set.
The full set of cards, along with their beautiful animations, can be found over here. Honestly I want to try build a deck for each faction. Just look at the Magmar: for 8 mana you get a 4/10 golem with Grow: +5/+5 and whenever he takes damage he summons that many random golem eggs nearby. Better kill or dispel that guy really quickly! Anyone got $20 lying around?
