6 Celebrities cameo appearances in video games

Who doesn’t love a good easter egg or cameo appearance in a video game? Just last week I was playing Call of Duty Infinite Warfare only to see Lewis Hamilton as a member of the crew on my spaceship. I couldn’t believe it was him. It was so random and perfect that I simply had to create a list of celebrity cameos in video games. Here’s just a little dash of who you can find in what game.

Lewis Hamilton – Call of Duty Infinite Warfare

Jumping straight into the obvious one is Lewis Hamilton. As I’ve mentioned above, he’s a crew member and even gets involved in a little action… well, very little action but I won’t spoil anything. I’m not sure when he first shows up, but I saw him closer to the end of the game [Ed – He shows up quite early on, and then later again]. His likeness is so spot on that it caught me off-guard.

Ricky Gervais – Grand Theft Auto IV

If there’s one comedian I despise, it’s definitely Ricky Gervais. However, his appearance in Grand Theft Auto IV as a comedian is spot on. He’s not the only one though as you can also find Katt Williams doing stand up as well. The Grand Theft Auto series has no shortage of celebrity voices such as Samuel L Jackson, Ice T, Fairuza Balk, Ray Liotta and Steven Ogg.

Hideo Kojima – Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

This was a major surprise and can actually be first seen in Ground Zeroes. In both games, you can rescue the legendary creator of the series, Hideo Kojima. He’ll be masked until you rescue him, but upon saving him, Kojima will say ‘What took you so long?’

Drew Carey – The Sims

This is going way back to the original Sims games and the first add-ons the game received. House Party was the first expansion pack for the Sims game and added a lot of fun and parties to the game. If you had a successful party that lasted a long time and scored well, Drew Carey will pull up and join the fun. While this is a bit of an odd one, Drew Carey was wildly popular back in the day with his hit comedy show ‘Whose Line is it Anyway?’. He’s not the only celeb to grace a Sims game. Others include: Christina Aguilera, Avril Lavigne and Marilyn Monroe.

Aisha Tyler – Watch Dogs

While she may get a lot of lip for her hosting skills at the Ubisoft event at E3 every year, Aisha Tyler is still a major fan of video games. She appears in Watch Dogs and can be spotted all over the city. I even remember spying on her while I hacked the security feeds in people’s homes.

Bonus: Ozzy Osbourne: Brutal Legend

This one isn’t quite a cameo, but it’s still great. Ozzy Osbourne appears in Brutal Legend as the Guardian of Metal, a character who helps the protagonist along the way. His likeness is uncanny and the fact that he’s in a game based on metal music is perfect. It makes sense and is a great nod to the musician.

Have you noticed any celebs in video games? What are your favourite cameo appearances?
