Review: The Sims 4 – Spa Day Game Pack
A new game pack for The Sims 4 just arrived on Origin last week. In case you didn’t pick up the previous game pack, Outdoor Retreat, a game pack is somewhere between a stuff pack and an expansion pack, with its price of R199 in between the two as well. Let’s have a look at what the Spa Day game pack has to offer.
Spa Day includes everything you need to treat your Sims to a nice relaxing day at the spa. There are new gameplay objects that allow Sims to give or receive back massages, hand or feet treatments, or take in some steam in the sauna. In addition to these new objects, there is a sizeable collection of stylish new furniture to fit into your new upmarket spa venues. The pack includes several pre-built spa venues that you can add to any of your worlds – the game even prompts you to do this the first time you load up a save that lacks a spa. Of course, you could also download a spa from the gallery or make your own. There are also several styled rooms included that you can use to build up your own spa or add treatment rooms to your Sim’s home.
In addition to new build mode items to create the perfect spa, there are quite a few new outfits and hairstyles for Sims of all ages, including bath robes and hair towels, and several yoga outfits. The pack also introduces the new wellness skill, which covers a range of activities, including yoga, meditation, and the ability to give massages. Sims can practice these activities at home, or try a yoga class at the local gym or spa. Sims with high wellness skill levels unlock new yoga poses, more massage types, and advanced meditation techniques – including the ability to teleport! This is a great way to save on travel time and was a favourite ability of mine in The Sims 3 so it’s awesome to see it appear in The Sims 4. There are a few other new additions as well, like mud baths, incense burners, and a number of different mood-enhancing bath soaks.
If you felt that The Sims 4 was missing yoga, or meditation, then Spa Day is the game pack for you. I personally love the new furniture, gym equipment and decor items – they have a very zen feel to them. The yoga is quite fun to watch; the pose animations look great, and that Sims humour is never far away: I spotted a Sim who had fallen asleep during the corpse pose!
