E3 Prediction Time (and Gerard gets introduced)

Prediction Time Image

Good day everyone, and welcome to the first round of Prediction Time! Prediction Time is a new feature we are using on the site where the writers give their views of things that may or may not happen. It could be around anything gaming related and we totally want you to join in on the predictions in the comments section.

I also want to take this opportunity to introduce you all to Gerard . Gerard is the voice inside my head that never shuts up and won’t leave me alone {Or perhaps you are the voice inside MY head Jarred, ever consider that?}. See what I mean? Anyway, Gerard will be accompanying me on some of the articles and reviews, although I will do my best to shut him up at times, he can be a bit much if you know what I mean. {Like your mother?}… well that’s your mother also, and aren’t we a bit old for mother jokes? Anyway, let’s get on with it.

For those that don’t know, Myself {and me Gerard}, Dawid, Garth, Kyle and David are your local writers {loonies} and in episode one of Prediction Time we are going to obviously be dealing with {BOOBS}, no Gerard, we are going to be dealing with E3 {Oh, fine}.

For this episode I asked the writers what they would most like to hear at E3. Which developer will do the best, which of the big THREE will be best, a surprise you think might happen and also what you think we will hear that nobody cares about.

Jarred – In terms of one prediction I think we are going to see something massive come out of Ubisoft again. I know they have announced Far Cry 4 already, so surely they are saving something for the conference. Prince of Persia perhaps? I hope so. That actually ties in with my hopes, but I’ll add a new Gears of War to that too. That will make me buy an Xbox One instantly, especially if they can get it to the quality of the original three games. None of that Judgement stuff please. I want more Sunset Overdrive, Uncharted and praying for a Last of Us sequel. Make it happen Naughty Dog!

Speaking of Naughty Dog, I think they will steal the show with some impressive stuff, and perhaps Quantic Dream have something in waiting for us? As for something nobody cares about, I think that the rumoured Nintendo hardware reveal is going to be a letdown. We shall see.

Gerard – {My prediction is that people will complain about the booth babes, that fanboy wars will rage after the conferences and that Microsoft will announce a console free Kinect}. You mean a kinect free console? They already announced that. {No, I mean a Kinect that comes without the console, think about it, it will be just as useful and you can hit people over the head with it}.

Dawid – With the hardware shenanigans out of the way I think E3 is wide open this year to be won by anyone. We’ve heard rumours that Microsoft has some big plans in place, though they’ve already announced Halo 5 and dated it, so there better be something. Sony will without doubt bring their ace in the hole to the show – Naughty Dog. And Nintendo… well, I don’t think even Satoru Iwata knows what they will be announcing but I’m still excited to hear what comes out of the Nintendo camp. Don’t shove EA or Ubisoft out the way either as Ubisoft has surprised us for two years in a row now.

What I hope to hear: Something decent from Capcom. A Resident Evil game that’s not rubbish and returns to the survival horror roots.

What I think will happen: The unexpected. Nintendo will actually have a great show video. Microsoft will announce unexpected third-party exclusives and Sony, they will just continue hammering their dominance home.

Kyle – I’d like to hear more about Cyberpunk 2077. Not much is known about the game, but it’s definitely something that’s excited me since the release of its teaser trailer. Other games include: Uncharted 4, Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture and Final Fantasy XV. As for the best developer, Naughty Dog has a fairly good chance of blowing everyone away. After the success of The Last of Us, they’re on everyone’s radar. Also, Uncharted 4 has pretty much been kept under wraps, so a trailer will definitely titillate {Haha, he said titillate} fans.

Hard to say which of the big three are going to rule this year. Sony’s been on a roll for sometime now, and if they keep that momentum going things might stay in their favour. I do, however, believe that Nintendo will whip out something interesting – they’ll have to if they want their console to sell.

The biggest surprise? It’s a long shot, but the biggest surprise would be Bethesda announcing Fallout 4. And as for something nobody will care about… MORE HD remakes.

David – I think the star of the show, developer wise, will be none other than Naughty Dog {I sense a trend here folks}. However, this was not an easy choice as DICE are bringing Battlefront {that’s the new Star Trek game right?} to the stage, and I think seeing the Star Wars {excuse David’s ignorance, he means Star Trek} universe come to life on Frost Bite 3 might actually blow people’s brains out their ears. I do think that Uncharted 4 will be the big game of the show that people will be talking about for the next few months.

Since Uncharted 4 is a PS4 exclusive I think Sony will have the edge in terms of conferences, but I also believe Microsoft want redemption with their showing, so I expect a very close finish for best conference between the two. As for a surprise, I think Nintendo might bring a hologram of Mario onto the stage that will have a dance off with a Wii Fit balance board and their stock will explode through the roof!

Garth – Ah, the annual build up to the acclaimed Electronic Entertainment Expo. The event that get most of the Western worlds gamers talking about their favourite titles, franchises and at times ludicrous predictions.

Titles such as Mirrors Edge 2, Halo 5, The Order 1886, Destiny and Quantum Break  are all pretty much guaranteed to have gameplay trailers shown off, but who cares about that, right? Also there are rumours floating around of a new God of War title, Gears of War 4 and Beyond Good & Evil being teased… still, meh, who cares. What we are looking forward to (I’m looking forward to) are Nintendo not being at E3 yet making announcements DURING E3. *They really do seem to love making things difficult for themselves. A Bayonetta 2 release date announcement, a new Castlevania for the 3DS, more Hyrule Warriors details not to mention more info on the NFC figurines; Ah, that’s more like it. {So… still not much then, right?}

Monolith Soft might only be working on ‘X’, the new Xenoblade title, but as far as developers go I think these are the guys to watch with this long awaited offering.  Many developers such as NetherRealm (Mortal Kombat X),  SUDO (Forza Horizon 2) and Crytek (Homefront: The Revolution) all dropped announcements before the event. If this is any indication of what we’ll see at E3 then we’re in for a treat. As far as surprises go I’m really hoping that we see a new FIFA this year, maybe EA will even name it “FIFA 15“… okay seriously though. If I had to think of  something that’ll catch us off guard (Well kinda off guard) it would have to be a new Zelda title, no not Hyrule Warriors.

Over all I think this is going to be Microsoft’s year after having played catch-up with Sony up until now. There are too many rumours surrounding a very quite M$… something big has got to be planned. ONE thing is for sure though; This is going to be one hell of an expo.

Conclusion – As you can see we still don’t really know what to expect from this year’s conference, lots of rumours and leaked information, but many surprises are ahead. Let us know in the comments what your predictions are and what you want to see most!
