Every single year, at E3, Ubisoft gets asked the same thing, “Will there be a Beyond Good & Evil 2 announcement?” Every year the outcome is the same. This past year, as before, everyone was expecting Beyond Good & Evil 2 to be announced (like so many other expected The Last Guardian and *cough* Shenmue 3*cough) and they were once again denied. Well, things have changed up a bit at Ubisoft. You know Michel Ancel? The brains behind the brilliant Rayman Origins and Legends? He’s left Ubisoft to start his own Studio – Wild Sheep Studio.
The good news is that he’s still very much part of the Ubisoft setup, it’s just that’s he’s now got his own studio running, along with 13 staff members. One of the games they’re working on happens to be Beyond Good & Evil 2. Here’s what he had to say to Eurogamer:
In many ways, BG&E is an inimitable game – it appeals to all generations of gamers and is an inspiration behind many of Ubisoft Montpellier’s past and future games.
It’s still far too early to give many details about this new title, but what we can say is that while Michel and the team at Ubisoft Montpellier are working with the core tenets of BG&E, they’re developing something that aspires to push past the boundaries of a proverbial sequel and leverages next-gen technologies to deliver a truly surprising, innovative and exceptional game.
The entire team is excited about the direction this extremely ambitious project is taking, and we’ll have more to share later, as it progresses.
Now that we know that the game is definitely being worked on by Michel and his team the question is now ‘when’? Do we have any Beyond Good & Evil fans here?
