The Ice Bucket Challenge is a THING in the games industry

Sometimes we forget that our industry is supposed to be about fun and games. Things can sometimes get so serious that you forget about the lighter side of things. If you’ve never heard of the Ice Bucket Challenge this is perhaps a great introduction to it. Basically what happens is that you pour a bucket of ice cold water over your body and take it like a man. Before doing that though you nominate, or challenge, others to do so too, whereby they have 24 hours to respond. It’s for a good reason – to create awareness and support for ALS.

A crew at PlayStation took it upon themselves to do just that and challenged Bobby Kotick (Activision CEO) and Jim Ryan (President of PlayStation Europe) to do the same. We highly doubt that Bobby Kotick will do something so outrageous, but we’ll see.

There’s been more Ice Bucket challenges. Phil Spencer, the boss at Xbox, took the Ice Bucket Challenge and nominated Shuhei Yoshida at PlayStation, Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aime and Valve’s Gabe Newell.

Stay tuned, we might get involved.

Married to a gamer and she kicks my ass at most shooters. If the game is enjoyable I'll play it, no matter the format.
