I’m sure that you are all well aware by now (and if not I’m about to destroy your Monday even more) that Halo: The Master Chief Collection will come with a day 1 update of a whopping 20GB. That’s right, it’s enough space to fit about three Halo games of old on… wait a minute…
You see, there was simply not enough space on the disc to fit the complete collection, so you’re tasked at downloading the other 20GB. In essence that means you’re now paying additional for your bandwidth and will either run out of cap or get throttled thereafter. So you’re paying quite the price for buying this. You can play all the single player games off the disc right our of the box, but if you planned some multiplayer goodness you’re in for a rude awakening. It’s basically 20GB for the multiplayer maps.
Here is what the founder of 343 Industries, Frank O’Connor, had to say:
The game is designed to run as a single, unified product. Digital is seamless obviously, but we also wanted disc users to have the same experience, without swapping discs. Since the bulk of it is MP or MP related, the logic is sound. There will ALSO be a TU in there, but that in itself is a tiny fraction of the content.
We realize that this isn’t ideal for everyone, but it’s the path to the smoothest eventual experience.
We understand that they don’t want to let us swap discs and the like, but seriously, I’d rather swap discs than use my monthly bandwidth just to play a game. Or how about including an install disc as we’ve seen with some titles in the past? How do you feel about it?
