There’s still a glimmer of hope for Beyond Good and Evil 2

After years of saying, “It will never happen”, the Sony conference at E3 was proof of the saying ‘Never say never’. The Last Guardian, Final Fantasy VII Remake and Shenmue 3 all showed up in one conference. Never again (unless they somehow screw it up) will you hear about people hoping for any of those three titles to make an appearance again. The one that’s still missing is Beyond Good and Evil 2. Many gamers, including several of us at SA Gamer, have been hoping for a Beyond Good and Evil 2 surprise announcement at the Ubisoft conference over the last few years to no avail. That might change.

A recent interview with IGN pointed to Beyond Good and Evil 2 never happening. However, The Guardian met with Yves Guillemot (Ubisoft boss) who had the following to say on the topic:
I can’t say the name, but there is a team working with Michel Ancel on a project that is… very interesting. It’s a game I’m sure you will like very much, and we can’t say more.
It’s no secret that Beyond Good and Evil 2 sold poorly back in 2003. In fact, it sold under a million copies. The Guardian then asked if the fan outcry versus commercial fail or success has a hold on whether it’ll happen or not. He replied as follows:
For us, what counts when we create the next game is that we feel can make the best possible game. There are some limits that we have to get rid of, because things have changed in the meantime, but there are elements we can keep. That’s why we don’t want to say anything until we are well advanced on the project. It’s too early to say.
Should this become in a reality in the next year or two it would be good news for fans. Let’s just hope it sells.

Married to a gamer and she kicks my ass at most shooters. If the game is enjoyable I'll play it, no matter the format.
