A new job listing on the Blizzard careers site could be a hint that we are in for a new expansion for the isometric trend-setter, Diablo 3. The listing calls for an art director on an unannounced project and adds that the applicant should have, “A passion for games with a deep understanding of the Diablo franchise.”
Blizzard’s conference at Gamesom last week brought fans the news of new cards for Hearthstone, heroes for Heroes of the Storm, characters for the upcoming Overwatch and, of course, the announcement of Legion, the newest expansion for World of Warcraft. Considering that the announcements of new WoW expansions often happen at Blizzcon, perhaps this year’s conference will see focus shift to Diablo and what we can expect from the game in the future.
This job listing has also caused a bit of speculation about the possibility of Diablo 4 but realistically I think that a second expansion is far more likely. There’s still a lot that can be done with Diablo 3 and although I was pleased at the introduction of additional end-game content in Reaper of Souls, I still felt that it got stale quite quickly. With that said, Diablo 3 expansions will always be a day-one purchase for me so I’m really hoping for some news when Blizzcon rolls around on 6 November.
