I am relatively new to the Call of Duty series. Call of Duty: Ghosts was honestly my first entry into the series when I got my PS4 and I absolutely loved the single player campaign. It was tons of fun with some epic, action filled moments. The story was also pretty intriguing with some cool characters and those awesome space scenes.
Before then I never really followed CoD, but Ghosts made me take note. It’s not an amazing story, but that adrenaline filled Michael Bay type action which is great fun. Since then I have noticed how each year the developers say something like “this is the best story we’ve worked on” or “we spent more time on the story this time because…”. Whatever. We know it’s PR talk and they want to push the story, but it still got me wondering if they are right.
I loved Ghosts (remember, I am talking single player now) but Advanced Warfare was missing a bit. It still had an excellent story and some great characters. I mean Kevin Spacey, come on! But it didn’t have as many awesome moments for me. No complaints about wearing a mech suit, but it felt like a lot of it got caught up a bit in the focus of “future”.
I have gone back to play some of the older CoD games, starting with Modern Warfare 1. It’s good fun but I just don’t see the amazing story elements people told me about. I am still enjoying it but Ghosts is the pinnacle for me. Perhaps it’s because it was my first? I know a lot of people swear by the Modern Warfare series, and some love the Black Ops series, so while I make my way back to play those in order to play BLOPS 3 I wanted to know if you think the stories really are improving, or are they just the same with more and more explosions?
Looking at the story trailer that went up a bit earlier, I have to say it’s looking pretty damn cool to me, and I know I will have good fun playing it, but will it be a stellar story? I am not sure. What do you think? Let me know in the comments below.
