The promise of mod support for a console game was an ambitious endeavour. Mods have been exclusively available on PC and is actually one of the bigger bulletpoints for why PC has a major leg up on consoles. Mods for games on consoles were mostly restricted to map builders and customization options that developers made a mode for within the game. True user generated content was always an impossibility simply based on console hardware and software. Bethesda then made the ballsy move of implementing mod support for Fallout 4 on consoles, starting with the Xbox One and it was mostly a success.

You couldn’t do crazy sh!t like replacing Deathclaws with a gigantic Macho Man Randy Savage or something like that, but you could enjoy a piece of what PC gamers have the luxury to enjoy. The most important thing is that it is entirely community driven with unique creations coming from a lot of sources.
PS4 has been left in the dust, unfortunately, but since the announcement Bethesda have promised that PS4 mod support is on its way and will be slightly after the Xbox One implementation. Well, it has almost been a year and still nothing has come of it. What gives?
Bethesda has explained that the delay can be blamed on PS4 specific issues such as sound files not working, the console’s OS giving issues, PC textures not loading properly and so on. So the gigantic delay can be mostly blamed on technical issues, which is understandable. They put an increased focus on Xbox One and now they figure out that the PS4 is resistant to the same implementation.
Fret not, Bethesda is on the case. Allegedly:
We’re working w/ Sony on Fallout 4 Mod support for PS4. The process is still under evaluation. As soon as we learn more, we will share news.

The typical “we’re working on it okay?” response, but it would have been nice to know what the actual problems are that they ran into. Technical difficulties, sure, but how is the progress going on that? Bethesda have usually been good at communicating with fans, but this time they give polite PR responses and no actual info.
Personally, it doesn’t phase me. I still need to get the platinum and mods disable trophies. Shameless, I know.
