While scrolling through the news feeds today, I came across one story that I wanted to write about (*cough* Mass Effect Andromeda) which someone already covered (*cough* Jarred *cough cough cough*), but then I found this little gem and thoughts of murder slipped my mind. There’s a new Kickstarter running around for a game called Dawn of the Devs and it really looks like a great homage to some of the best developers in the industry. In it, you’ll play three game developers who are based on actual developers. It’s currently being created by a studio called Underdog studios, and they’re hoping to raise $65 000 by 7 October to fund their project.
The developer examples in the video and on the Kickstarter page are, Tom Schiffer, Biff Klozinski and Hiro Komiya. I’m sure you’ll be able to figure out who they’re based on, but if you’re not sure, you will know once you see the video below. Dawn of the Devs a 2D side-scrolling puzzle platformer with a little bit of action mixed in for good measure. To me, it looks like a cross between Trine, a point and click adventure and Contra.
I love the aesthetics and the humour behind it. For example, there’s a troll-based enemy with a ‘thumbs down’ club, and a witchy looking dude called a Meta-Critic Cultist. In some of the clips you’ll even see nods to other games like God of War, Grim Fandango, Super Mario Bros. and Tetris. I think this game looks really cool, and I’m legitimately considering backing this game. If want to know more, head over to the Kickstarter page for all the details.
