There was a lot of excitement the last couple of weeks with the build-up and eventual announcement of the PS4 Pro, which according to Sony is a 4K capable console. But it has been confirmed by Sony that most of the games will be upscaled for the PS4 Pro, instead of rendering natively.
This is not the case with Microsoft’s Project Scorpio Xbox that we can expect by the end of next year. According to Microsoft Studios publishing general manager Shannon Loftis, all Microsoft developed games will be running natively at 4k:
Any games we’re making that we’re launching in the Scorpio time frame, we’re making sure they can natively render at 4K.
Up until now, the PS4 has been seen as the slightly more powerful console when compared to the Xbox One, but that might change with the Xbox Scorpio estimated to be 40% more powerful than the PS4 Pro. So getting games specifically developed for the system to run at native 4k might be a bit easier than with the PS4 Pro.
Whether or not this will actually be the case still remains to be seen, as execs has in the past inflated the capabilities of their new tech.
