SA Gamer Awards 2016: Best RPG

RPGs. You live them for hours and hours, until you know more about the world they are set in than your own city. Your bond with the characters within rivals your bond to your cousins and possibly some of your friends. These are your friends, this is your land, your fight and trials to overcome. But who walks away with the crown?

Final Fantasy XV

Ah, what a game. Final Fantasy XV just hit all the right notes. A great story, memorable characters, solid voice acting and a levelling system that revolves around the most basic, natural need of life: sleep. Randomly levelling up in a dungeon surrounded by enemies always sits oddly with me, after much time playing pen and paper games where levelling takes a while and is confined to safe areas or after a milestone has been reached. FFXV enchants players and takes them into a wonderful world of friendship and roadtrips, fraught with dangers and obstacles. It proves that an old dog can learn new tricks while keeping veterans playing.

Runner-up: Dark Souls 3

If it has the letters RPG in it, I am there. Still battling with balancing trying to play every single game that grabs my interest, getting 100% in a JRPG, and devoting time to my second home in Azeroth.
