Torment: Tides of Numenera is all about player choice and consequence. Branching dialogue options and quest paths will shape the world around you. Will you make new allies or new enemies? What happens after you die going on a fool’s errand?
But don’t take my word for it. Play through this interactive quest video and choose your own path through a sidequest. There are seven different ways to go about it, and according to creative lead Colin McComb, this is one of the early, less complex side quests that you will encounter in the game.
Torment does away with the simple dual axis alignment system of many other games, which force you to be either as good or evil, or chaotic or law-abiding. Torment uses a tide system to showcase the richness of decisions and the multitude of emotions and virtues that make up your character. Tides swell and wane as you complete actions, all shaping the final outcome of the game. Do you follow your emotions and take action? Then your red tide will swell. Or are you perhaps swayed by compassion? Then gold tides will lurk in your being.
Torment: Tides of Numenera released on February 28.
