Sony and Guerrilla Games announced yesterday that Horizon Zero Dawn became the best selling new Sony published IP for the PlayStation 4, selling 2.6 million copies of the game in its first two weeks.
To give that some perspective, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End moved 2.7 million units in its first week, and that is a well established, popular franchise. The sales figures are worldwide and includes both retail and digital copies of the game. It also became Guerrilla Games’, the developer of the Killzone series, best selling debut ever. Hermen Hulst, managing director of Guerrilla Games, was obviously quite happy with these results:
”We’re thrilled that Horizon Zero Dawn has been embraced by critics and players alike. Developing the game was a labor of love, so it’s extremely satisfying to see that it elicits the same passion and enthusiasm from the gaming public that we felt during its development.”
Hulst also said they’re working hard to expand the story of HZD, but it’s not clear if he was referring to possible DLC or the inevitable sequel. Either way, it’s something I am sure we’ll find out in the near future.
