If you were interested in the story of Destiny, you had to jump through a few hoops. To get at it, you needed to leave the game you were playing and fire up an app or log into a website, effectively leaving the game to read more about the game. Some people loved it and while I enjoyed a lot of the entries I read, I felt that if it was important enough, it would have been in the game all along.
Destiny 2 is changing that, making sure that the lore, the story of the game is in the game itself. In an interview with Bungie’s World Lead, Steve Cotton, Forbes asked about the cards and if they were making a return.
“The answer to that question is ‘no’ and the reason it’s ‘no’ is because we want to put the lore in the game. We want people to be able to find the lore. All the story is told through the Adventures, it’s told through the characters in the world, it’s told through the campaign and it’s told through scannables you find throughout the world.”
Having story as a reward for exploring the area, rather than collecting what is effectively a hyperlink to go read in some online library, sounds so much better to me. RIP Grimoire cards, I am not sad to see the end of you. Destiny 2, you have my attention.
