Are you looking for a puzzle game? Does a bleak Orwellian dystopia get you going? Or perhaps the positively Inside vibes pull you towards this. Black the Fall by Sand Sailor Studio and the Square Enix Collective is a communist dystopia that draws on experience from the devs’ families, who lived in Romania when it was a communist dictatorship.
Black the Fall requires puzzle solving and stealth to escape the oppressive state. You need to avoid cameras, guard dogs and soldiers, with a bit of platforming thrown in.
“Romania only broke free of the shackles of the Soviet bloc less than 30 years ago, so for many people living in the country today the memories are still fresh,” said Cristian Diaconescu, creative director at Sand Sailor Studio.
Black the Fall was one of the first games featured on the Square Enix Collective in 2014. The collective has new game pitches weekly, which allows for feedback on ideas and some exposure for devs.
The game launched this week and costs R143.10 on Steam until the 18th. It is also on PS4 and Xbox One.
