The Burning Question: Have you ever used hacking tools in a game?

No I don’t mean did you go down the hacking skill tree in Deus Ex. Have you ever used tools that allow you an unfair advantage in games? As an example, popular shooters like Overwatch and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds are plagued by aimbot users, with bans and colour changes and other clever modifications being implemented in patches to prevent aimbots from working. Some hackbots allow you to shoot through walls, hide under the ground, become invisible or give you extra sensory perception so that you can track enemies easily.

In some cases the hacking is invisible to the players you beat. You just seem lucky or they were unlucky. What a good shot! But sometimes you can notice when a player goes invisible as you aim at them and kills a dozen people. The hackers feel that this is the way to have fun in the game, and their fun is what matters, even if it comes at the expense of other people having fun. Some insist that games have let them cheat since they started playing, so why should they stop cheating now?

I’m not asking you to name and shame yourself and the game involved, or do something that gets you banned. I just want to know if you ever tried using hacking tools, or do it regularly, and why? Is it fun? Do you enjoy the experience? Does it not cheapen the victory?

If it has the letters RPG in it, I am there. Still battling with balancing trying to play every single game that grabs my interest, getting 100% in a JRPG, and devoting time to my second home in Azeroth.
