Fans of both franchises will be absolutely delighted to find out that Final Fantasy XV will be getting Assassin’s Creed themed DLC! Yes, you read that right, Square Enix and Ubisoft announced at Gamescom that they have teamed up to bring us the Assassin’s Festival to the town of Lestallum.
The content will be free, and will be available to Final Fantasy XV players from 31 August to 31 January 2018. The festival will see Lestallum decked out in Assassin’s Creed banners, characters from the game will get special outfits, and Noctis will be able to do some typical Assassin’s Creed style traversals and abilities such as stealth takedowns and leaps of faith. There will also be some new activities that you can participate in.
Ubisoft stated in their blog that the collaboration with Square started nearly three years ago during an information meeting held at the Tokyo Game Show. Assassin’s Creed Origins director, Ashraf Ismail, said it’s because of them being huge fans of each other’s work:
“This collaboration is the result of being huge fans. There’s a lot of respect between the two teams and we couldn’t be more thrilled with the opportunity to pay homage to each other’s work.”
This is not the first time that Square has been involved in weird DLC. Earlier this year, Platinum Games added DLC which allowed you to battle the literal bosses of Square and Platinum Games in Nier: Automata.
There is no official word on whether we can expect Final Fantasy DLC in the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Origins, but I suspect that it won’t be a bad bet that it will happen.
