I battle to explain what A MAZE is. It is part festival, part indie developer party, part design and networking space, part panel and talks and well, it is a lot of fun. Regardless of not having a nice little box to put the experience in, A MAZE is a great way to see games that aren’t scared to push the boundaries of the medium, both locally and internationally.
A MAZE Johannesburg is from September 13 – 16 at Founders Square, Tshimologong Precinct. Nina Freeman, who works as a game designer for Fullbright (Gone Home, Tacoma) will be the keynote speaker. If you enjoy live music, the opening night features live performances by South African musicians The Good Dokta and Wilderbeets with the Finnish producer Meduusa.
Here is a link to the speakers for the festival, and the full programme. The festival includes talks, workshops, a selection of arcade and VR games and lots of music. If you want to see what happens when a bunch of talented artists, programmers, developers, musicians and more come together in one space, this is where to go. It really is hard to describe just exactly what A MAZE is without going there yourself. Or you could watch this video of last year.
Guess where I will be heading in September? You can get more information about A MAZE here.
Disclaimer: I have been a panelist and speaker at A MAZE.
