The original Super Meat Boy was a revelation in the indie scene. The ultra-hard platformer with relatively simple mechanics and brilliant art style sent waves through the entire scene and quickly became the standard that indie games were shooting for. It came from humble beginnings, with just a two man team doing absolutely everything except the soundtrack and it released to wide acclaim and commercial success.
This all happened in 2010, and people have been wondering for years if a sequel will ever come along. Team Meat, the developers, did reveal the there was an endless runner called Super Meat Boy Forever coming out, but they went quiet again after a while. However, the game has now been officially revealed and we also know what it’s going to encompass. Here is the full reveal trailer:
There was also an announcement made by the developers regarding what the game would be about and they stressed that it won’t simply be an “auto-runner”:
To describe the game as an auto-runner would be a disservice. It’s like saying that Zelda: Breath of the Wild is a game about a swordsman. Meat Boy/Bandage Girl do always run, but there is so much more to the game than running. They can attack enemies, they can dash through the air, there are tons of levels, there are bosses, there are secrets, and there is a surprising amount of difficulty that doesn’t feel unfair. It’s everything you would expect a Super Meat Boy sequel to be.
This will be a true sequel to Super Meat Boy and it will have significantly different gameplay than its predecessor, but judging from the trailer, this might be an extremely good thing. It differentiates itself in a very creative way while still keeping that signature charm.
Also, Nugget must be protected.
The game will release on PC, Xbox One, PS4, Switch, Android and iOS
