Switch system update 4.0.0 now live, includes video capture and save/profile transfers

The Switch has been a genuine success story around most of the world, and even here in South Africa. Unlike its predecessor, the Wii U, it’s making quite a name for itself. That doesn’t mean that all is well. There have been some very annoying features missing since launch. Version 4.0.0 has just arrived and has added some much asked for features.

  • Video capture for select games
  • New profile icons featuring characters from the Super Mario Odyssey™ game and The Legend of Zelda™: Breath of the Wild game
  • Transfer user profiles and save data to another system
  • Pre-purchase option is available for certain games on Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch

To capture a video you simply hold down the capture button until you hear a beep and it’ll capture the last 30 seconds you played. Those videos are then saved to your album and can be shared to Facebook or Twitter. The games that support this feature at this time are:

  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
  • ARMS
  • Splatoon 2

Expect that list to grow in the future. Hopefully, third-party games will be supported with that feature soon. I have tested the feature and posted an example below:

Married to a gamer and she kicks my ass at most shooters. If the game is enjoyable I'll play it, no matter the format.
