Sometimes an amazing game comes out and nobody plays it. Be it the marketing hype or eclipsed by another huge game, or competing in a crowded genre, things can get tough to stand out with so many games vying for our attention. Those that play these games and see them for what they are: ignored gems, will often sing their praises, but to deaf ears.
Dishonored: Death of the Outsider
Oh Dishonored. I feel like the world has failed you. Your narrative was amazing and playing as a different character breathed so much more into the world. Billie Lurk is a killer, but she isn’t cold-hearted. She is skilled and becomes even more deadly when she is blessed/cursed by the Outsider. Billie’s last mission is to kill the Outsider and through the game he questions, admonishes and plays with her, giving her the tools to kill him.
Her toolbox is leaner than Corvo Attano’s but that doesn’t mean you don’t have all sorts of tricks to kill, suppress or hoodwink the enemy as you pursue your task. I love this game and I wish more people did.
Runner-Up: Yakuza 0
Honourable Mention: Quake Champions, Matterfall, Nex Machina
