In-between the loot boxes, Witcher 3 outgrossed many of 2017’s big games

The Witcher 3 is probably rather confusing to some of the bigger publishers in the gaming industry. It is a single-player game. It has no loot boxes. It has no games as a service rubbish attached. But it still managed to outsell a bunch of 2017’s heavy hitters on Steam.

Valve recently put together a list of Steam’s top 100 games of 2017 and The Witcher 3 is still on the list. It isn’t even just on the list though, it is in the platinum tier, among big titles like Dota 2, Rocket League, Warframe and PUBG. There is no new DLC, no re-release. Just Geralt still keeping on keeping on. Oh and this completely excludes how well the game has done on GOG, which CD Projekt owns.

This means that two-and-a-half years later, The Witcher 3 is still one of PC’s best selling games. Which means all those companies pushing loot boxes, crates and keys and a host of free to play mechanics are missing something: quality sells.

Imagine that?

If it has the letters RPG in it, I am there. Still battling with balancing trying to play every single game that grabs my interest, getting 100% in a JRPG, and devoting time to my second home in Azeroth.
