Dissidia FF NT’s season pass detailed with hints of new characters

The next entry in the Final Fantasy fighting game spin-off series Dissidia NT  is fast approaching release day. The game is now officially available in Japan with the western release still over three weeks away. In celebration of the game finally leaving Japanese arcades, Square Enix held a pre-launch live stream.

In the live stream, the publisher gave more details on the season pass for the game. The contents of the season pass were announced alongside the release dates but Square Enix decided to do some teasing. The season pass will come with six additional characters each with two costume colours and two weapons. While the live stream did not announce who the characters are, they dropped some hints on who the characters might be.

The three criteria for the hints are the gender of the character, whether they have appeared in a Dissidia title before and finally if they are in the “newer” or “older” half of the franchise. Despite this info, there is still very little chance of calling each character. Below is the list of hints with special credit to Gematsu for the translation.

  • Female, previously appeared in the Dissidia Final Fantasy series (from newer half of numbered Final Fantasy titles)
  • Male, new (from newer half of numbered Final Fantasy titles)
  • Male, new (from older half of numbered Final Fantasy titles)
  • Female, new (from newer half of numbered Final Fantasy titles)
  • Male, new (from newer half of numbered Final Fantasy titles)
  • Male, new (from newer half of numbered Final Fantasy titles)

It is very tough to speculate at this point who is going to be making the cut. The hints themselves don’t offer much outside of a dangling carrot. Some online have already deduced that the returning female character will be between Tifa (FFVII), Yuna (FFX) and Prishe (FFXI). As for the others, it pretty much comes to hopes and dreams.

The downloadable content was also given a price point. The season pass is priced at 4,000 yen (~R450) with each character going for 800 yen (~R90) individually. Local pricing may be different but it at least gives an indication of how much the mystery combatants are going to cost.

With Dissidia Final Fantasy NT out now in Japan and the Western release set for the 30th of January, more info on characters will likely be coming soon. The game will be hosting an open beta starting tomorrow that will run until January 21st. Until then, let’s all speculate about how Auron should totally be in this game and get mad when he is overlooked yet again.
