The Prince of Persia creator has put it upon himself to resurrect the once popular franchise. Jordan Mechner stated that he’s currently working on the revival long after it went a bit quiet during the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 era, with a film adaptation of the game featuring Jake Gyllenhaal being the last we saw of the parkour time travelling prince.
Model and TV host Chrissy Teigen posted on Twitter this week on her fond memories of the Prince of Persia games and wondering about the whereabouts of the franchise. Mechner caught wind of the post and responded stating that he and others are looking into jump-starting interest in the franchise’s revival.
Chrissy, I know a few other people who feel the same way. We’re doing our best to make it happen! https://t.co/guYWh1n0E8

Mechner developed the first Prince of Persia game back in 1989 and has assisted with several other Prince of Persia games thereafter, including the 2001 reboot with Ubisoft taking over publishing rights. Whether they would publish the revival of the franchise is another story altogether with Assassin’s Creed being the successor and main single player franchise at the moment. And lets face it, Assassin’s Creed: Origins has seen an impressive showing and new direction for them, so it wouldn’t be unexpected for Ubisoft to pass on opportunity. While we wait for any new developments on this project, you can always check out the previous games as part of the backwards compatibility programme on Xbox One.
