When you think of the word Ridge Racer most people instantly think of Kaz Hirai and the PlayStation platform, but it’s been a long time since last we saw a Ridge Racer title on any PlayStation console. You’d have to go back to Ridge Racer Unbounded in 2012 to find a PlayStation version of the game. Rumour now has it that Ridge Racer 8 will be making its way back exclusively to the Nintendo Switch.
A Youtuber that goes by the name of Doctre81 uncovered some details on a LinkedIn profile of the Lead Designer at Bandai Namco Singapore. Someone on Resetera tracked down the profile and confirmed that the details were indeed real. Unfortunately, if you search now it seems to have vanished, though another source confirms to have seen it as well and points out that this particular employee has over 20 years of experience with “a number of reputable publishers”.
As can be seen, it looks very likely that we’re going to see Ridge Racer 8 being announced for the Switch in the not-too-distant future, but there is something else that stands out like a sore thumb. It looks highly likely that Bandai Namco could be working on Metroid Prime 4. Thanks to the close ties with Nintendo in the last few years (a third-party company that stood by Nintendo’s side in the tough Wii U era) it could be true.
Ridge Racer has proved to be very successful on the PSP, Vita, DS and 3DS in the past and would make for a great console or portable experience. Again people, a nice big pinch of salt.
