SteamWorld Dig 2 is getting physical, you dig?

For those of you that have finished exploring the world of Breath of the Wild, are done with your trips on the Odyssey and are looking for something to hold you over until Nintendo releases their next big first party game, look no further than the SteamWorld Dig games. SteamWorld Dig 1 has recently been released on Nintendo’s eShop and despite being relatively shorter and less polished than developer Image & Form’s more recent offering SteamWorld Dig 2, it still provides a satisfying meteoroidvania-styled action platformer you can look forward to.

However, the big news coming from video game publisher Rising Star Games, in collaboration with Image & Form, is that due to the overwhelming success of SteamWorld Dig 2, not only critically (88 Metascore, and 8.7 User Score on Metacritic) but in terms of sales, a physical release of the game will be coming not only to PlayStation 4 but also the Nintendo Switch. Brjann Sigurgeirsson CEO of Image & Form said:

“We’re totally humbled by the community’s reaction to SteamWorld Dig 2. This latest SteamWorld adventure is a milestone, and we’re naturally very proud of it. Many fans are now asking for a physical release, so it makes me very happy to be able to partner up with Rising Star Games for a boxed version. We’re also excited that additional exclusive items will be included as well!”

The exclusive items are said to include reversible inlays as well as a double-sided poster with unique never-before-seen artwork. These physical releases are due to hit selected retailers in America, Europe and beyond, around the American Springtime of 2018.

SteamWorld Dig 2 is a true indie gem set in a steampunk trading town, where you’ll find yourself immersed in a progressive digging style adventure that rewards exploration and encourages replays. So my suggestion is to start digging into SteamWorld Dig 1, and then that should give you just enough time to buy a physical copy of the SteamWorld Dig 2. They may be the new diamonds in your collection.
