Celebrities in games is most definitely not a new thing. Way back in the Xbox 360 days, you’d get the chance to play stuff like Halo 3 with the likes of Rihanna, Jack Black and all sorts of celebrities through some programs that Xbox was running at the time. We’ve seen them become more and more involved in game PR recently as well with Snoop Dogg appearing in Battlefield 1‘s reveal and some famous actors being made stars in major franchises. But now it seems the celebrities are invading streaming. We’ve seen rappers embrace Twitch in their off time between all the drunken parties and bragging about gold-plated teeth and it seems even the biggest rappers are joining the fold.
Streamer Ninja recently got joined by none other than Drake and the event was monumental. The record for most viewers was set by Dr. DisRespect back in February with 400 000 viewers and Ninja’s stream crushed that with 600 000 viewers at the peak, no doubt made possible by Drake tweeting out that he’ll be joining him for some Fortnite. It was the perfect storm, really. A popular Twitch streamer, an insanely popular rapper and the zeitgeist game of choice, which is Fortnite‘s Battle Royale mode. It all came together and destroyed the view record. Ninja must be over all kinds of moons at the occassion.
You could say that Ninja started from the bottom, but as was part of God’s Plan, he now has views from the six (hundred thousand viewers). Sorry, I just had to. Also, I had to post this meme as well:
