Sony has released firmware update 5.53 following last month’s major 5.50 update. Today’s update doesn’t come with any exciting new additions, with the only patch note being about improving system performance, which is what nearly all previous non-major updates have done.
The update comes in at a healthy 459MB and it’s available now for everyone. You’ll need this update to play online, or even log in to the network for obvious reasons. If your console is left in Rest Mode, it should automatically download it and install it. There aren’t any other notable improvements that we know of as yet, guess we’ll wait and see if anything else pops up.
The previous update released over a month ago added Supersampling Mode and reconfigured the Library section to try and streamline it. There was also noticeable improvement carried out on the layout of the Quick Menu, with the addition of the notification centre allowing you to perform bulk deletion.
Once patched you will be prompted about Sony’s data collection. You can choose to send less of more data to the company when you are online, and this setting can be changed later.
