The vehicle abilities in Onrush look like arcade racing gold

When the team who brought you the amazing Motorstorm and Drive Club games got dumped by Sony it was a bad day for all racing fans. Thankfully Codemasters picked up on the talent and acquired most of the ex-Evolution Studios members. The game they’ve been working on is something called Onrush and if the latest trailer is anything to go by it’s going to be an arcade racing game that’ll entertain fans of the genre.

Up until now, we’ve not seen the vehicle abilities and what exactly they can do. Each vehicle type will come with unique abilities attached to that particular class. The main focus is to gain RUSH that puts you in an advanced state. Here is the lowdown of what to expect:

  • Daredevil – Earn RUSH directly from driving near enemies
  • Airstrike – Improved magnetism on in-air attacks
  • Bulldoze – Plow through opponents with a physically larger RUSH effect

  • Pinpoint – Earn RUSH directly from performing near misses
  • Surge – Initial boost usage is more powerful but more costly
  • Rampage – Refill your RUSH gauge with every successful takedown

  • Tumbler – Earn RUSH directly from front and back flips
  • Crashbang – Your Tombstones are blinding when collected by opponents
  • Firewall – RUSHING leaves a destructive trail of fire behind

  • Bully – Earn RUSH directly from taking down fodder
  • Shutdown – Hit opponents to temporarily disable their boost
  • Blackout – RUSHING blinds any opponent following behind

  • Unite – Earn RUSH directly from driving near teammates
  • Restock – Drop boost pick-ups for your team when you boost
  • Energize – RUSHING supplies nearby teammates with boost

  • Show-off – Earn RUSH directly from performing tricks
  • Slam – Heavy landings trigger a shockwave that makes nearby enemies vulnerable
  • Drain – RUSHING drains boost from all opponents in range

  • Spiral – Earn RUSH directly from performing Barrel Rolls
  • Touchdown – Timed boost landings are more effective
  • Turbulence – RUSHING leaves a disruptive wake of turbulent air behind

  • Impact – Earn RUSH directly from taking down opponents
  • Shield – Give nearby teammates a shield that offers protection from big hits
  • Blockade – RUSHING drops a trail of blockades that slow your opponents down

It’s got a very similar feel to Motorstorm with both cars and bikes featuring and will launch on 5 June for PS4 and Xbox One.

Married to a gamer and she kicks my ass at most shooters. If the game is enjoyable I'll play it, no matter the format.
