GTA V has now sold a whopping 95 million units

Take some time for that to really sink in. If you take 95 million R1 coins, any person would be very happy with that outcome. Instead, the cost per unit is much, much more and it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out that the publisher, Take-Two, is making a small killing and that Rockstar North is easily the most valuable development team on the face of the planet. Why is it still doing so incredibly well? That is a simple answer – GTA Online.

CEO and chairman, Strauss Zelnick, has come out to give his take on why the series is doing so incredibly well.

Grand Theft Auto has sold over 95 million units and according to others apart from us, it’s the highest growth and most profitable entertainment product ever made of any sort. So it’s not only exciting to a small core, it’s exciting to a very, very broad audience. You can approach Grand Theft Auto and Grand Theft Auto Online in any number of ways. And if you are a hardcore gamer, you can find it super compelling and if you are somewhat more casual you can find the experience super compelling and there is so much there now.

He’s got a very good point. GTA speaks to both the more casual and hardcore audience – something that isn’t easy to achieve. The next milestone is 100 million and we don’t think that is going to take too long to achieve.

Married to a gamer and she kicks my ass at most shooters. If the game is enjoyable I'll play it, no matter the format.
