Playground Games have likely made one of the best racing games of our time when Forza Horizon 3 released in 2016 for PC and Xbox One. Their understanding of what makes a racing game fun in an open-world environment is unmatched by any other developer and Microsoft has taken note of this.
The team who was originally made up of some of the best developers in the racing business (talented people from Codemasters, Bizarre Creations, Criterion and Black Rock Studios) might now be snapped up by Microsoft. You, like myself, might have assumed that the studio was already owned by Microsoft, but it’s not the case. When heading to the Companies House page you’ll now see Keith Dolliver listed as the Director of Playground Games. He happens to be the Microsoft’s Vice President and Deputy General Counsel.
Considering that rumours suggest that Playground Games will be announcing Forza Horizon 4 at E3 and that the team is also working on a new Fable experience it’s safe to say that this is pretty much a done deal.
Please Microsoft, just look after this team and don’t go all EA on them.
