It’s hard to believe that Grand Theft Auto V is five years old already. It took the world by storm and it is still making Rockstar a lot of money through GTA Online and microtransactions. So it comes as no surprise that fans might be getting excited about the prospect of the next GTA installment.
Over the last few days, however, players have been seeing a pop-up message stating that “GTA VI is coming”. This message is made to show like it is a message from Rockstar themselves, but as we should have guessed, this is a hoax. According to Rockstar, the messages are created by hackers using mods, which run the risk of being banned because it’s not allowed in GTA Online. They confirmed this when asked about it on Twitter:
This is a hoax made with the use of mods, and not an official message or statement from Rockstar Games. *OV

So no, Grand Theft Auto VI will not release in 2019. It will probably be a few years before we get another GTA game since GTA Online is Rockstar’s own personal money printing machine. They’re also notoriously slow in developing their games, and with Red Dead Redemption II right around the corner, thinking that the next game from the publisher might come next year would be nothing more than wishful thinking.
