In April Hearthstone director Ben Brode announced that he was leaving Blizzard. At the time he joked that “we’ll probably make games” and it appears that there is more to the joke that we don’t know yet.
When Brode quit, Hearthstone executive producer Hamilton Chu replied to Brode’s Tweet about his last day with “Weird! It was mine too…” Since then Chu has been rather quiet and his first tweet since leaving, where he follows the pattern with a “Me too!”

The new studio is called Second Dinner and sadly there is no news about what the studio is up to, apparently, they are still having their first dinner. Brode was one of Blizzard’s most public faces and he represented Hearthstone for many players with his enthusiasm for the game and its players. Now as Chief Creative Officer of a new studio that is looking for “a crack team of superheroes”.
Will we see something like Hearthstone from Second Dinner? Both Brode and Chu and intimately familiar with how CCGs work and they could possibly do something new with a fresh slate, thinking of all the issues that Hearthstone faced but couldn’t get fixed without a significant rework. Or will Second Dinner push away from the card game genre, which is positively jam-packed with everything from indie darlings to massive juggernauts?
