If you played PC games in the late 90s you might have spent some time with the real-time stealth-tactics game Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines. It is a game about taking on impossible odds, using stealth, crack troops and attention to enemy patrol paths to get the job done. It was the Hitman experience in isometric view, a while before we met 47. Now after a long hiatus, the IP of Commandos has been acquired by Kalypso.
Kalypso secured all rights to Pyro Studios’ IP, from the first game all the way through Commandos 2: Men of Courage, Commandos 3: Destination Berlin, Commandos: Strike Force, Praetorians and Imperial Glory. The publisher plans to make “completely new games for all platforms” and also to adapt existing titles for “contemporary technologies and platforms”.
“We’re incredibly excited about the opportunities and will begin speaking to potential development studios in the near future.”
The founder of Pyro Studios, Ignacio Pérez, said: “We have been looking for a suitable partner for the continuation of our products and brands for a long time. Kalypso has great expertise and experience with rebooting well-known titles, and we are delighted to have our IP in such good hands.”
