Crystal Dynamics opens a new studio to help with upcoming projects

Crystal Dynamics is probably best known for their work on the 2013 Tomb Raider reboot, but what a lot of people don’t know is that they’ve been around for a long time. They’re collaborating instead of leading development for Shadow of the Tomb Raider, with the original series creator, Eidos Montreal, leading the project.

That doesn’t mean the studio is resting on their laurels, and they are hard at work with the announced and teased Avengers Project. They’re also working on a yet to be announced project, and because of that, it seems they’re expanding their operations by opening a new studio. They’re also busy hiring some big guns in the industry, such as the combat designer of God of War, Vincent Napoli, as well as one of the co-founders of Dead Space, Ben Wanat.

Crystal Northwest with be based in Washington, and will be headed by Chad Queen and James Loe. In addition to opening the new studio, they are also ramping up hires at the main studio in California. Crystal Dynamics said the reason for the increase in staff and the new studio is because of their commitment to the very ambitious Avengers Project:

Our new studio in Bellevue, and the new hires in Redwood Shores, represent our continued commitment to the most ambitious project we’ve ever created. We’ll keep building on the exciting growth Crystal Dynamics has experienced over the last several years, and are eager to deliver a world-class Avengers experience for fans around the world.
